About ShadowDex

Learn why the ShadowDex Team built this independent Pokémon recognition and type-training project.

A field guide you can play

ShadowDex is an independent learning game for people who enjoy recognizing Pokémon designs, names, cries, and type relationships. It began as a complete silhouette challenge and grew into daily, audio, typed-answer, multiplayer, and type-effectiveness modes.

The project’s goal is to make a very large body of Pokémon knowledge approachable. Progress is divided into useful pools, saved locally, and supported by answer reviews so the experience can be used for deliberate practice instead of endless guessing.

How content is prepared

The ShadowDex Team maintains the game logic, mode design, explanatory writing, progress tools, accessibility behavior, and multiplayer service. Pokédex facts and type relationships are checked against the references named on the Sources page before a related guide or game update is published.

Every learning guide is written specifically for ShadowDex and receives a human editorial pass for clarity, internal consistency, source accuracy, and usefulness with the linked game. Corrections are reviewed against both the cited reference and the game’s tested data before the article is updated.

The site does not mass-publish automated Pokémon profiles, lightly rewrite encyclopedia entries, or treat third-party artwork and audio as publisher-written content. The four guides are intentionally limited in number so each can be maintained and reviewed as an original article.

Independent fan project

ShadowDex is an unofficial fan-made project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Nintendo, The Pokémon Company, Game Freak, Bulbapedia, Pokémon Database, or Pokémon Showdown.

Pokémon names, characters, artwork, audio, and related marks belong to their respective owners. Source attribution documents provenance; it does not claim ownership or endorsement.

Corrections and contact

Accuracy reports, accessibility feedback, privacy questions, and media-rights concerns can be sent to hello@shadowdex.ca. Include the page or game mode involved and enough detail to reproduce the issue.

We prioritize corrections that affect scoring, type effectiveness, navigation, privacy, or the accurate identification of a Pokémon.
